Comedy Central invited us to participate in a contest. The premise were to merge the game of Pachinko with the politically incorrect thoughts of the show. The game raised a series of challenges.
The first one we had to face was the deployment of the game physics engine. Since Flash has some speed limitations, we had to squeeze it in order to get a smooth and realistic ball movement. The interface imposed another challenge: we had to organize the game area in order to optimize the reduced available screen area (660x528). To achieve this we had to analyze many different aspects such as the game board limits (a circle or oval board yielded less space than a rectangular board), the 'bubble' size (bigger bubbles meant less bubbles, but smaller ones could be difficult to distinguish), and the general aspect that had to give the feeling of playing inside Carlos Mencia’s brain.
As for the 20 level design, we focused in achieving a variety in their development and also a balanced learning curve. The look & feel was designed so that it would fit the Comedy Central site design. The project tool the projected three months.
